DR. WILLIAM FITZHUGH
Curator of the Department of Anthropology of the Smithsonian Institution and the Director of the Smithsonian's Arctic Studies Center, Fitzhugh is the driving force behind the expedition. He has been invited by Russian archaeologists and paleontologists to research areas previously closed to the western world. For him, arctic Siberia is "the last unknown area of arctic archaeology. [Siberia] holds the key to understanding the history of arctic people who moved into the Western Hemisphere."
