KODIAK ISLAND
Kodiak's archaeological sites will take us
back 6,000 years. The indigenous peoples hunted sea mammals for food and livelihood, which we know from
preserved bones. Sea lions, porpoises, and sea otters were all hunted
for blubber used as oil for stone lamps.
